Scroll your windows
instead of shrinking them.

and the others keep the size you left them.

What is a scrolling window manager?

Windows keep a width you choose. The row continues past the edge of the screen. You scroll or use shortcuts instead of crushing every app into a tiling grid.

Ribbon is that model on macOS: a menu-bar strip per display, stacks when you need them, Accessibility only so SIP stays on.

If Stage Manager, Rectangle, or yabai still leave you resizing all day, the missing piece is room to keep windows full-size while you move between them.

How it works

A horizontal strip, not a shrinking grid

New windows join the row. You pick widths, stack two apps in a column, scroll with Option and two fingers, and change shortcuts in Settings, all without turning SIP off.

Terminal
Notes

Strip

New windows join the strip

Launch an app and it opens beside the focused column. Close one and the gap closes. Nothing hides behind something else.

Layouts

Eight pictures in the menu bar

Pick a picture. 2 across, 3 in a row, stacked pairs, 4 / 5 / 6 grids, then back to the chain.

Widths

Widths that survive the next open

Set the focused column to a third, a half, two thirds, or the full row. ⌃ ⌥ R cycles those widths. Opening another app does not reflow the rest.

Stacks

Stack a column, then flip tabs

⌃ ⌥ S piles the focused window with the next one. ⌃ ⌥ T turns that column into tabs.

Shortcuts

Keys for the moves you repeat

⌃ ⌥ → focuses the next column. ⌘ ⌃ 4 tiles four windows. Change any binding in Settings.

Gestures

Swipe the row with three fingers

Three-finger swipe slides the strip, then focuses the column you land on. Turn off the matching macOS trackpad gestures first. ⌥ + two fingers stays as a backup.

Displays

Each screen keeps its own row

Each display has its own row. ⌃ ⌥ N sends the focused window to the next screen. The screen you left does not reshuffle.

What is a scrolling window manager?
A scrolling window manager puts windows on a horizontal strip that can extend past the screen. Each window keeps a width you choose. You scroll or use shortcuts to move along the row instead of shrinking every app into a grid.
What is Ribbon for Mac?
Ribbon is a scrolling window manager for macOS 14 and later. Apps live on one strip per display. A new window opens beside the one you are using; the others keep their size. It runs from the menu bar.
Does Ribbon disable SIP or install a kernel extension?
No. Ribbon uses the Accessibility API only. There is no kernel extension, and System Integrity Protection stays on.
How is Ribbon different from Stage Manager or tiling apps?
Stage Manager stacks and hides windows. Classic tilers shrink everything to fit the screen. Ribbon keeps windows full-size on a scrollable strip, so you move along the row instead of compressing layouts.
What happens to my windows if I quit Ribbon?
Windows return to the frames they had when Ribbon first saw them. Quitting does not close your apps.
How does Ribbon licensing work?
Buy once for 1, 3, or 5 Macs. Your key arrives by email. Free updates stay inside the major version you purchased. Pricing is on the homepage.
How do I move my license to another Mac?
Open the license page on this site, enter your key, deactivate the old Mac, then activate Ribbon on the new one from the app.
